This couple lives in a one bedroom apartment with plenty of storage - but that storage became overrun with unused items, while their living space became overrun with things in use that should have a place in storage! They didn't notice much until their little boy came along and then they realized - it was Tidy Fairy Time!
It was a 6 hour day for the four of us to tidy this closet, but wow! It was such a transformation when we finished!
During the Tidy Heather and I split up. I tidied with Wifey in the bedroom and she tidied with Hubby in the living room. This one on one time gave us the chance to assess their individual tidy challenges and also notice something important. While they had written a narrative for themselves that involved the "Wifey" always holding onto things, we discovered that they actually had the same amount of stuff! They got into a fun competition of who could amass more trash bags :)
They both were really ready to let things go and it showed. Had they not cooperated so fully we would never have gotten done in one day. But because they were committed to their vision of the end, and kept their baby boy in mind always, they now have a beautiful and functional closet!
One end of the closet is organized for Hubby, the middle is shared (most is for Wifey), and the far end includes both of their costumes and sentimental items like their mothers' robes. We discovered that she needed more hanging space, while he was better served with more drawers in their small shared dresser.
Ooh and ahh!
"Clothes go in the Closet" and "You wear the pants, the pants don't wear you!"
We had a few key suggestions for Hubby and Wifey after this tidy:
