This week Marlane and I went on a tidy trip to the brand new, largest-in-the-country, wonderous Ikea in Burbank. Spoiler alert, we had all of the fun and LOVED it there.
We ooh'd and ahh'd, opened every single cabinet and drawer to marvel at the organizational tools hidden inside, probably annoyed a few people, and sang the "Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?!" refrain from The Little Mermaid more than once. I for sure called it the largest Ikea in the world all day (it's not). We also ate at the cafe which is expansive and carries lots of tasty treats, and boasts a gorgeous view of Griffith Park! (And Marlane ate pie there on Pi day. Totally unintentionally. That made my nerd heart happy.)
This trip was for research; we wanted to familiarize ourselves with all of the great storage & organization solutions that Ikea has to offer, just in case a client does end up needing something that they don't already have. BUT it was also of course a trip for us to call dibs on all of our favorite rooms OF WHICH THERE ARE SO MANY! This Ikea features a ton of great decorated rooms to explore. They also featured a couple of fully furnished tiny home, micro apartment, and bachelor rooms, which I love, as a tiny house is my dream house!
I think the thing that stood out to me the most about this location is the gigantic warehouse. I'm fairly confident that if there is ANYTHING you saw on any display floor, you can pick up one or seventeen at that location. I doubt there is anything that they would ever have to order from another location for you.
But wait! There's more! There's a video! Because OF COURSE WE MADE A VIDEO! Check it out after the JUMP!
Tidying with boys is, in fact, exactly the same process as tidying with girls. You simply handle each item (don't get overwhelmed, one at a time!) and decide whether or not it brings you joy. But tidying with boys may or may not come with hazards of the weapons type, as we discovered with sweet, easy-going twenty-one year old Cole - who has a secret penchant for danger!
The real lesson in Cole's tidy was how difficult it can be to transition from boy to man while still living in the same room! Cole had recently made an incredibly brave decision to leave a university that he felt was not a good fit, and instead pursue a career as a stunt man (something that sparks him joy!) He returned to a room and closet full of items from a past life - his childhood! It was our job to handle every item and find those that no longer fit in with who he is today!
Check out the Before and After process (including videos!) of Cole's Closet after the jump!
I hope you (somewhat) enjoy my very first vlog! It's about finding joy in your home, and how decluttering and organizing are for everyone!
I may have lost the plot a little, and made this too late at night, but hey - it's only up from here, right? =)
We here at Tidy Fairy want to give a big big thank you to our fabulous friend, Gina, for being the first person to hire us for a tidy last year! While we had both done tidy jobs individually, Gina is the one who made us official!
Gina had a closet full of AMAZING clothes and accessories (mostly vintage!). The only problem was, her closet and drawers had grown so full over time that she couldn't get to all the great stuff she had. So she invited us over to help her to shop her own closet, decide which pieces bring her joy now, and organize everything for an increase in ease of use!
Check out the work the three of us did together after the jump! Just click READ MORE!
