Tidying with boys is, in fact, exactly the same process as tidying with girls. You simply handle each item (don't get overwhelmed, one at a time!) and decide whether or not it brings you joy. But tidying with boys may or may not come with hazards of the weapons type, as we discovered with sweet, easy-going twenty-one year old Cole - who has a secret penchant for danger!
The real lesson in Cole's tidy was how difficult it can be to transition from boy to man while still living in the same room! Cole had recently made an incredibly brave decision to leave a university that he felt was not a good fit, and instead pursue a career as a stunt man (something that sparks him joy!) He returned to a room and closet full of items from a past life - his childhood! It was our job to handle every item and find those that no longer fit in with who he is today!

Cole was ready for the challenge! Starting first with clothes, divided into category, he quickly got in a wonderful rhythm and was discarding like a pro. We discovered something amazing, which is that Cole did not realize he is something of a minimalist when it comes to clothes and accessories!
Next we did sentimental items. Cole has many little totems that bring him joy, so we were sure to set those aside to use for the finished product.
Because Cole learned how to identify what he loves and how good it feels to shed the items he does not, his relationship to his property (and his closet!) is forever changed. Through this process he has set a standard of living that includes only storing things he loves and needs. He especially loves being able to see all the sentimental things that bring him joy, especially the memories of his dad, every day!
